Google’s Liquid Galaxy Machine

How amazing is this? Shown as a recent TED 2010 showcase – Jason Holt used his 20 percent project time to create a wraparound view of a modified Google Earth engine, and used 8 linux machines to project images across 8 LCD screens in an immersive viewing environment.

Apparently he used a six axis mouse, and as you will hear, also voice issued commands. Worth watching through as he submerges into the ocean before flying out to space and back into view the Taj Mahal…

How cool would this be in schools, nevermind the gaming / augmented reality aspects. I appreciate that to some, Google appear like they’re setting out to take over the world, but what a ride we’re having as they do so…
